Insecurities have no place here, Satan.

Though fear is the common topic right now, I’m going to address fears sister emotion – insecurity. As I talk with fellow women and hear some of the same things, I have battled in my life. I remember my younger writings about insecurities. It does not matter how old we get; this is a good reminder for all of us.

God wants more for me than for me to second guess every move I make. I am not sure at what age I let you, Satan whisper in my ear, but you’ve been there ever since I can remember. At times you’ve been louder than the One who loves me, God.

It is not God’s fault that I let these thoughts in, no, it was my own, I allowed your relentless whispers to wear me down like a rock continually being beaten down by the ocean, or a riptide that doesn’t let me catch my breath.

God tries to send me messages of love, yet somehow, I let your negative words overpower His words of love. When two people said I looked good today, and then one said, “You look tired,” I let that one hold. I let those words linger in the air like they had the power to chop all of the favorable compliments into tiny slivers. I start thinking about what makeup I could wear to cover my face to make me look less tired. I start down the rabbit trail of thinking, “I don’t look good.”.

When my husband breaths life into our marriage, I was listening to your lies that I am not enough for him. I let myself think that I don’t look good enough for him; I don’t keep a clean enough house, I don’t do enough to show him that I love him.

When my kids hug me and tell me how much they love me, I was listening to your lies then too, that I am not as good as the other moms, I’m not doing half of what the other moms are doing.

I am finished letting you be the louder voice, Satan.

Jesus’s voice of truth is filling my head. The good news that He proclaims will be my sword for battle.

Amidst all the movements in this country right now, we need to remember that we are not the enemy. Ephesians 6:12 says, “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.”

If someone says to you that you are not beautiful, you need to know that you are “fearfully and wonderfully made” The lies the devil put in this world, the insecurities he whispers through our society, were never meant for us. We are not supposed to listen.

Insecurities can come the opposite way too. When you are told by someone that they like your purse or the way you look, don’t downplay it by saying, “Oh, this thing I bought it at GoodWill.” Accept the compliment. You deserve the compliment. If they ask where you got it, by all means, tell them, otherwise, say, “Thank you!” ALL good things come from God. Say thank you, embrace the kind words spoken to you, and know that those words are meant for you, not the words of hate and lies.

When those words of hate fill social media, and all you

can think about is the negative words, fight it. Get off social

media. Surround yourself with words and people that breathe life into you.

Right now, we are going through a pandemic. People are self-quarantining in their houses and turning to phones and playing on social media. If all your finding is hate and fear on your Facebook, turn it off and use another feature on the phone, the one to call people. Yes, that’s right, phones can still be used to call people. Talk to loved ones. Talk to friends. I love this app called Marco Polo also because you can leave people video messages, which seems so much more personable than texts. Plus, people can see your expression when you talk. Whichever you decide to do, reach out to real people in this time. Don’t just go to social media.

Fill your hearts and thoughts with scripture, and then there is no room for the devil’s lies.

Repeat after me, “Insecurity has no place here, Satan!”

Here is the way to know if you know your sorrow is something to listen to

“Godly sorrow brings repentance that leads to salvation and leaves no regret, but worldly sorrow brings death” 2 Corinthians 7:10

If something is said to you that makes you repent and then leaves no regret or sorrow, then repent and move on. Yet if something brings you down and leaves you there, it is not from God, and it is not for you. Put those bad comments down, talk to someone, pray about them, but whatever you do, don’t carry those words with you. God wants you closer to Him. So come into His warm embrace where you can feel His love.
